My cousin has a thousand acre of farm ground just East of where I live. It has all the terrain a true dirt rider would want, from flat bean fields to creek bottoms and timber. There are no trails except you make your own.

Just Dirt- I thought the MR would perform but I had no idea. I started in the bean field where there is nothing but dirt for almost 75 acres. I cracked the throttle in low, the big knobies dug in and the front tire came right off the ground, I hit second and it really came to life, into third and it seemed like the clutch was slipping. So I turned it around and looked back this time when I hit third it was the ground that was slipping not the clutch. After figuring out I wasnt sixteen again I slowed it down a tad and went 90degerees to the plantings. The front forks need to be cleaned out and new oil added as they seemed a little stiff. But other then that it performed very well from 10mph to 50mph.

Pavement-I snuck it out on the paved road to see what it would do wide open. Now I am not small framed and weigh 240lbs. Throughout the gears it gained speed and finnally flatteneded out at 65mph. Is it not a crotch rocket, but then a crotch rocket could never follow this bike where it wasnted to go 8) It didnt sputter it didnt wimper it just ran like it was new.

All terrain-I took it through the Corn fields which are tough to ride because the stalks tend to pull you. It just walked right through. Tall grass.......I was plowing through waterways where the tangled grass was 1/2 a bike deep and in 1st and second I had no issues. Third seemed a little sluggish at 1/2 throttle, so I backed into second and I had no issues at all. Crossing swampy areas were no problems except the rear fender "WILL" get fixed soon. I had to goose it twice and the water did saturate my back. In the bog the bike pulled its own and my fat butt. It seemed to have all sorts of pulling power from 1/4 throttle to wide open.

Flying- its something I am to old for but I did make if fly when I did not see a badger hole, Luckily my approached was from the back and I hit the throttle immedialty before the dirt mound, the bike was airborn for maybe 30 feet. The landing was amazing I thought the suspension performed very well for a 34 year old system.

I am very happy, I can see why so many people had so much praise for the Elsinore 175. It has power but not to much to make it heavy. Handling is superb. For now I wont be a dong anything more except ride it. Oh and fix the rear fender.

Just wish I was 16 again and ride it for what it was made for. Trust me this bike made a 53 year old a little sore but it wasnt the bike faults for it seemed very balance.

Larry,

Sounds like the bike is running well - great!

If you do the forks, I highly recommend using ATF like the owner's manual recommends (I use Wolf's Head synthetic). It improves rebound damping and greatly reduces topping-out.

I sent you a PM, too.

Ray

Ray,

Thanks for the IM it means allot!!

I have made a discison, I always to give my son who is almost 25 something special, and this bike is it.

Ill ride it this summer, then next fall it will get torn down and made new. Ill have the frame powder coated. The small dent in the tank will be repaired. Ill tear off the cylinder and decarbonize the top end. I will find new clutch plates and redo.

He'll get it for Christmas.

After all is done my son will have a real nice original, 1975 Honda Elinore MR175. With a little more then 1,000 original miles on it.

Larry

Hey.......I am not done......the guy that gave it to me says he has a 100 Kowasaki in ND.....sounds like a challenge to me.

Larry,

No problem at all - I hope you end up getting it!

It seems like there's been a steady stream of MR175 parts bikes and complete part-outs on eBay lately. On the one hand it makes me a little sad, but it also makes our bikes just that much scarcer, and surely of interest to someone. A restored, low-mileage one like yours should be one of the most valuable!

8,522 '75 MR175's were made, along with 10,199 '76's and 2110 '77's - I wonder how many of each are left?

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but when you pull the top end and need new rings, Wiseco 2605KD rings are the way to go (you'll have to file them a little, but no biggie). The piston should still be in good shape.

:D That's great! :D
Ray: Is that the Polaris 600XLT rings? I've got a crankshaft & rod coming from Ebay. Now I can finish my spare "77" motor.
