Hi,

I'm thinking about picking up a 1988 CR250 to possibly use for "Decade" racing next year. Anybody have info or thoughts about this year CR250. Are parts for an 88 easier to come by than the Evo stuff?

I seem to recall that if this bike had come with the 87 front suspension the magazines would have loved it. ???

J

You are at the wrong end of the Decade class. The 1993 CR250R might be the weapon of choice. That having been said I intend to race a 1987 CR250R in this class. Loved the look of the bike and got it cheap. Being the first year after the works teams raced "production" bikes I expected it to be pretty good too. Parts - OEM and after-market - are easier to get than my 1979 CR250R.

So was it the 1993 or 1996 CR250 that Jeremy McGrath loved?

'96. That was the last year of steel frames.

Actually it was the 1993 bike he loved. Every year after that they made his works bike look like it was new when it fact it was still basically the 1993 one with new plastic. When the aluminium frame came along the game was up. Some say he never liked the new frame and this (in part) influenced his decision to leave Honda.
