Is the 1976 cr 125 ignition interchangable with an MT 125?
Thank You,
Jerry Birky

Jerry,

I'm almost positive it will fit, unless there's an issue with the MT125 left crank end, which I doubt. If you have an MT stator and flywheel to measure I can tell you for certain.

Jerry,

So you're thinking of putting an MT125 ignition on the CR motor? Wow, I'd strongly advise not doing that.

Hi Ray, I do have this 1976 cr 125 i am restoring also a 250 of the same year. Honestly, i now work at Penton Racing Products and am developing a PVL ignition kit that will bolt on to a MT 125, we have kits for the CR 125 and 250 Elsinore & want to make available PVL kits for the MT 125's, i just do not have a MT, bottom end here(only the cr & mr175) I do have a MR 175 i am restoring as well, so we will have a kit for those as well soon!
Thank you for any advise,
Jerry

Jerry,

Oops, sorry about that! It would be so cool to have a CDI ignition with a lighting coil for the 125 / 175 motors, like Honda should have done back in the day.

Practically all the CR-MR-MT crank / case / flywheel / stator part numbers are different, but I did find one interesting thing; the 13300-361-010 MT125 crankshaft is also specified for the MT125R road racer, which uses the '76-'78 CR125 ignition. Since I'm 99% certain CR stators bolt right up to MT cases, this was really good news.

You know, I saw the 'pentontech' username and I wondered if it was connected with the PVL ignitions... The CR ignition has worked well on both my MR175 motors, but I always thought a PVL might have worked better. Can the digital ignitions be remapped, either by you or the end user?

Wish I could be of more help. Perhaps you could find an eBay seller with an MT crank and CR flywheel (or vice versa) and ask them to do a quick test fit? I've had very good luck with eBay requests.

Hi Ray, Still thinking about the CR/MT/MR ign. just been really busy with other kits, machining and filling orders, the origional owner here passed last year, I am still picking up pieces. Have you ever used our digital kit on an elsinore? We want to test the digital vs. analog on my 76 250M soon. I know we sell a lot of the analog systems for elsinores & customers love them. There is a freely programable system we are getting into just so the customer can design their own curve(don't have them yet) we also have a program where we can alter the curve in house, we are not quite up to speed on it, am sure within the next few month we will be, along with the comparison of the 2 diffrent PVL kits on my 250. Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

No, I haven't used any PVL ignitions, sorry to say. I hope your CR250 test goes well, please let us know the results!

I'm not sure, but it's possible the Power-Dynamo 40349 ignition listed at your site might fit the MT125 / CR125 / MR175, or be modified to work without too much trouble. Apparently the CR125M ignition rotor is interchangeable with the Hodaka 125 rotor; if the 40349 stator plate fits inside the Honda ignition cavity, perhaps this ignition could be a workable starting point for an MT125 analog CDI with lighting capability.

Thanks Ray, We do not have that Hodaka kit or plate on the shelf, the next order from Germany I will have to be sure and get a plate, & will compare the Hodaka flywheel with the elsinore later today.
Thank You for your advise. :D
