Hi all, I'm a new member who is in the process of restoring a 1973-74 CR250M MX bike. I'm looking for a reputable individual or business who can rebuild my CR250M engine. I want it to be mechanically rebuilt, but cosmetically done so too, so that it has the look of when it was new. Can anyone recommend someone to me? Location doesn't matter. Thanks for all your help!! Hi Jim, your best off finding a local motorcycle mechanic. These 2 stroke motors are pretty simple machines. He can disassemble it for you, then you can get the cases and covers blasted and painted, when that's done you can give them back to the mech. Your biggest challange will be gathering all the parts for the rebuild ie: bearings,seals and gaskets. These parts are all availlable online but maybe from different sources,you can save alot of money if you get these parts for the mechanic because this could take some time. Good Luck! Gary. |

Gary, thanks for the advice and guidance. I kind of suspected that may be a way to go, but I just didn't know about the parts route. But I like the idea of having the work done locally with me finding the parts to save time and possibly money. Thanks again! |

Hello Jim, We do exactly what you need done here at Penton Racing Products. We bore cylinders, rebuild cranks, blast clean, weld repair cases, and paint engine parts. I have been doing this for 35 years, also was a certified Honda tech.& really like elsinores, (have 5 of my own) can get you some references and examples if you want.. Jerry Birky |

Jerry: I have a 1979 Honda CR250R engine broken down to the center cases. While I focus on prepping my race bike for 2013, I would like to get this engine completely dis-assembled, bearings and seals inspected / replaced, blasted and powder coated satin black, and rebuilt. I do not expect any problems inside, but do have a 2nd transmission set just in case. The crank has been rebuilt with a IMS Hot Rod so that should be OK. Jerry, could you give me a ball-park estimate for what this might cost? Thanks! |

Ball park is 10 hrs labor @ $65.00, Any parts needed we will let you get so you can save all the money you can. I know how it is. By the time all is disassembled, inspected, cleaned, threads chased, paint, reassembled, and all the other details, 10 hrs is a realistic amount. Also I build every engine like it is my own. Jerry |
