After taking my 81' CR80 out of summertime storage I've had trouble with getting the clutch to engage. Everytime I try to put the bike in gear it stalls out. The only way I can put the bike into gear is to go down an incline but when I want to stop and pull in the clutch it stalls out. Usually this is common problem if the bike sits up for more than a few weeks but all I have to do normally is just tilt the bike over on the clutch side to let the oil get to it and its solved. I drove the bike around the yard to try and get the oil spread around but it still is having issues. I'm going to check the trans oil and see if I need to add any or change it out. What do you else recommend I do?

Check your clutch basket. It is probably notched.

stuck clutch plates happen to lotsa bikes over the years Subzero. Quick fix is drain the oil and remove cluch cover and while holding in the clutch lever, lightly pry each plate from the next one all the way around the plate.... then move onto the next one, plate or disc.... once all plates and discs move freely from one another reassemble and fill with oil and bobs yer uncle!

best way is to find a service manual and completely disassemble the clutch and measure all tolerances and replace parts and adjust as required

Ok thanks for the information. I've done a little other reasearch on this and it seems I could try to get the bike going in first then pull the clutch while reving the bike and that might break them loose. I could also tech through the oil fill plug with a small screwdriver and try to pry them that way. If its comes to removing the clutch cover I guess that's what I'll have to do. If so I'll need to buy more gaskets and be very careful I don't crack the cover like I did last time I opened the bike up. I currently have 2 spare covers that have a small crack in them as a result :( .

I was able to break the plates up by going down a small hill in first while disengageing the clutch. After that it works good as new. For now on I'll have to be sure to start the bike up atleast once every 2 weeks to keep this from happening again. Any other ways to prevent this? Thanks for the help
