Hello,

I recently acquired a 1974 CR125M. It appears to have the EMGO Kawasaki kick start lever 83-61640 that I saw in a related post. I am wondering whether my lever has been bent or is worn. The photo shows the lever in the closed position. When opened, the top of lever (where the foot engages) is not perpendicular to bike's direction of motion, but is perhaps 15-20 degrees beyond 90. The kick starter works OK and does not interfere with the exhaust, but the angle is awkward.

Thank you,
Ben

The stock '74 kickstarter should point in slightly, towards the general vicinity of the exhaust manifold. Perhaps your lever is twisted a bit - several of mine are - or the pivot stop is worn.

My sons KX100 is bad about doing that. The stopping point on the kicker is probably worn. What I have done is build it back up with a welder then grind it flat where the kicker and the lever meet. Looks like an East Coast Vintage bike ,You live here in NC? Do you plan on racing it?

Thank you for the replies. I thought of heat/twisting it back or welding a wedge in the hinge stop. I might just buy a replacement EMGO lever for $26.

The bike is from East Coast VMX, but I live in New England.

I plan to race it, at least at the Unadilla Vintage rewind festival and
possibly ACMR (Southwick) and/or NETRA-VMX rounds.

I also race a '72 XL250 (photo below) but it weighs almost 300 lbs and is better for cross country than MX.
