So have a couple of flat spots in both rims and the spokes are 5mins worth of sandpaper rusted before I see any bare metal.
I think I need to replace but have no idea where to start to find:

1-correct looking rims
2-new spokes
3-someone to build them

I imagine I would be sending a specialist of some kind the hubs?

Anyone got any ideas?

Ideas gratefully accepted.

I would fleabay used wheels after asking a LOT of questions.
Some from the southwest like AZ or CA would be your best shot at a good set.

For the record, will give it some more time but initial glances on fleabay reveal examples that are somewhat worse than mine.

However a buddy pointed in Bucahanan's direction and I think I'll save up some pennies and get some new rims and spokes here:

These OEM rims don't look too bad to me( I've seen much worse ones):

There used to be a Thailand seller that had new steel MT250 rims, can't find them now.

If aluminum is acceptable, these ones might be OK (I've had good experiences with overseas eBay sellers, Thailand included):

I believe the mid-late 70's XL250 / XL350 / MR250 aluminum rims will also fit the MT250.

Just FYI - relacing 70's Honda wheels with new spokes (sets are available on eBay) isn't hard to do, just a little tedious. I take a photo of both sides first, just in case - and if a nipple is seized, I clip the spoke in half.

Mine are nice looking but when trying to get the front rim near perfectly round I may have tightened the spokes too much. Now the brake lever pulses some.
Am I right in assuming that I warped the brake hub some by not tensioning all the same?

I will say that I wish my CR has such a good front brake on it back when racing vintage in 2004-2006. That was the only thing I did not lime about that racer. Thus, I learned bow to rail berms. *eek*

I'd suggest untightening those spokes ASAP, and see if the pulsing lessens or stops. I've had two of my drums trued; the brakes had better initial 'bite' and a little more power afterwards.

The MT250 front brake is pretty decent. I think the MR250 uses basically the same unit.

Buchanan out in CA has replacement rims and spokes, may not be OEM but new and will fit MT when using your hubs.
