I'd like to upgrade the forks on my '77 MR175. Something with larger diameter fork tubes. Can anyone recommend something which will directly swap, triple trees, forks, etc.

The '77-'78 CR125M 35mm forks / trees should fit the MR steering tube (I know someone who's done this to their MR). These forks are pretty heavy (especially the stanchion tubes), but they're strong.

The 31mm '79 XR185 forks on my MR work great, and weigh only a bit more than the OEM forks. They have significantly more tube engagement than any of the CR125M forks and seem to flex a lot less than the MR units, and also dropped right into the existing MR triple clamps/wheel/brake/cable setup with no mods needed (the XR clamps fit too, and have bar vibration mounts - I may put them on at some point).

Thanks Ray. What's your opinion on adding a fork brace as a means of stiffening the forks?

Well, I've never used a fork brace myself so I can't really offer an experience-based opinion, but it seems to me a rigid connection between the sliders would make the forks less apt to deflect from glancing impacts and hold a line better through the bumps, and possibly corners too. The only bike I've got that could easily use one is the MR, which now has XR forks that can't use one. :)
