These have no regulators so MAKE SURE all wire connectors are clean and tight. If not your alternator will not get to the battery and run away as the lead acid battery "pushes back" against this (sorta regulates).
The manual says to check the water level before EVERY RIDE and I see why. I cooked my new battery in 3 months and guess what? No water inside.
On my '75 I carefully rebuilt EVERY switch on the handlebar and then cleaned EVERY push connector inside the headlight.
Also, be careful about the huge resistor on the headlight mount frame as without it the expen$ive headlight bulb will POP. Don't ask.
