Advice needed:
I need to change my fork oil. My forks are sagging quite a bit. I am not much of a mechanic. Do I need to remove the forks from the triple clamps? I popped off he rubber stopper at the top but can't see where a bolt is that would allow me to pour in fork oil. Thanks very much

You won't need to remove the forks from the clamps, but you will need to get the fork caps off, one at a time. They're held on by an internal circlip that engages a slot inside the fork tube, and have significant spring pressure pushing up on them. See if you can get one of them off; if you have circlip pliers and a strong thumb - and the caps/clips move freely in the fork tubes - it's not too difficult, but if the caps or circlips have frozen up and/or you don't have the proper tools, it can be a real challenge.

Hope you haven't done this project yet but make sure you take the weight off the front wheel first before you try to remove that cap. The spring can be under tension when the weight of the bike is on them and shoot out.

To rayrivers or anyone else with knowledge of an MR175-
I finally am getting around to changing my fork oil. I was able to remove the clip with circlip pliers but now there is the "upper seat" I can't see how this is removed. I was able to depress it slightly within the fork tube but that was about it.
Also I bought a vintage pair of air fork caps on e-bay from Pro-tec. The package says they are for the 1976 CR125 and 76 MR175, yet the diameter is too large to fit into the tube. Any advice?

The upper seat is probably adhered to the tube I.D. by its O-ring (be careful, it's got substantial spring pressure on it as mentioned earlier). What's worked for me is to take the weight off the front wheel and then spray a penetrant like PB Blaster or similar around the seat, then press it down hard & repeatedly against the spring to try and break the O-ring bond. If it's not rusted to the tube it should come out fairly easily: if not, try tapping it with a hammer & wooden dowel to free it up, while always keeping downward pressure against the spring. You'll probably want to replace the O-rings afterwards.

The '74-'75 CR125M and all years of MR175 use 31mm stanchion tubes, while the '76-'78 CR125M used the larger 35mm units - so it sounds like you may be out of luck with your Pro-Tecs, sorry. I used air forks (Goki single-fill adaptor, no springs) for years in my '74 CR, they worked great. And FWIW, the '79 XR185 forks make excellent drop-in 31mm replacements, 8" travel with more tube engagement & less flex.
