I saw this question on another forum.

If money were no object and they were available what Vintage/evo bike(s) would you buy?

I am 42 years old and have attempted to own/ride every bike that I didn't have or race back in the 70's and early 80's. I have to say the best handling and best usable power band in any evolution bike has to be my current 81 Maico 490. The only draw back to a Maico is starting the sucker. I have learned to use my left leg on a bike stand but when the engine kicks back...look out. A big hill is very helpful also. The second best bike was my 78 CR250 with Fox Airshocks. Selling it was my biggest mistake so if you have one, keep it!! I can't wait to complete my 79 CR125R project to give my leg and foot a rest. What a great site!!

Mike

Hey Mike,

I'm 42 also and just installed Fox Air Shox on my 78 CR250 tonight! What a coincidence. LOL I've always wanted an open class Maico because they look so great and can back it up. I've never ridden an open class bike in my life so it probably would scare the heck out of me.

Since I've had my CR125 and put so much time and effort into making it a better bike I realize now how great the 77 RM125 was that I had in my teenage years. I did nothing but standard maintenance to it and it always ran like a scalded dog and never once left me stranded.

The new Honda CRF's need an oil change and other maintenance after almost every ride!

Back to the question though, I would probably take Johnny O'Mara's 79 Mugen 125 or Pat Richter's Moto-X Fox RM.

I'm 46 and bought a new 79 CR 250R in april 79, I put Fox air's on it but I stll couldnt hold it on the track, now I have a 79 with Fox airs, swingarm and Forx, the difference is like night and day, it goes where you point it and stays there, I dreamed of owning one these back in 79 but thats all I could do, now I have it and couldn't think of another bike I would rather have.

Well I have loved Elsinores for a long time and even though I agree with the comment about the 77 RM125 (in the time period when Honda sat on their thumbs for 4 years) they just don't stir my soul like the looks and handling of the 78-79 CR250R's and CR125R's. I have two of each and love them all. For a vintage bike I'd have to go with the 73-74 CR250M and CR125M. Yes, that's right. I have two of each of them also. Hey, ya gotta have one for show and one for go! I think Bad Brad's Open bike had to be the ultimate Elsinore of all time though and that is the one bike I'd choose to own over all others.

Nathan,

You're right even though I loved my RM I always wanted the CR's. The RC400 does get the blood pumping.
