I joined AHRMA thinking it was the organization to be in to have fun racing the older bikes I purchased. The more I research it seems that the regional, independent organizations have more classes and are more fun oriented.

Does anyone else have an opinion or experience to share on this subject?

Here in Southern California we have SVRG, CalVMX, and AHRMA, plus some independent events like the Vintage Iron World Championships. Technically AHRMA is more expensive because you need to be a member of it and the AMA, while you can race at SVRG and CalVMX without joining the club. All of them offer good racing and the camaraderie of hanging out with friendly helpful people who share your interests (i.e. the fun factor is equal). Currently here to get access to the widest range of tracks you need be with all three organizations so that is what I do. And given my time limitations I shop my "business" picking the most interesting places to race.

Unless you like traveling long distances, then you will probably end up with a local club for most events, but I encourage you to attend any AHRMA Regional or National within striking distance. You get to see a larger number of quality bikes. Maybe see you at Honey Lake? Do not get discouraged by some of the stuff you might see on the Discussion Boards when you get to the track it is all forgotten and even for a complete novice like myself racing beats play-riding.

Michael,

I will be at the Honey Lake National in May, but maybe I'll get to meet you before that if I can get down south in the Spring.

Hey Jay,

If you're planning a trip down south and they have a vintage class let me know. Maybe we can throw the bikes in my truck and head down together. Not much further to Sacramento for me to hop on I-5. And I'm sure Michael will be more than happy to wine and dine us. 8)

Loren,

That sounds like a fun trip! Actually I live in Davis, so it is on the way to I-5 (no lost time). With your Vintage bike, one of my Post-Vintage bikes and my "Decades" class 1988 we should have all bases covered. :D

You are both welcome anytime. Though I have a conflict for the AHRMA National at Cahuilla Creek I am trying to wriggle out of....maybe one of the regionals or the Vintage Iron "World Championships"?

Hey Guys,
Sounds like a good idea! We'll be at Cahuilla Creek for the Nationals, and if J and Loren come down to race, I will be more than happy to wine and dine for the evening, you to mike, squeeze out of that conflict and you can go to. Sounds Good? Dinner and Drinks on me!! OH S&%T:shock: what am I getting myself into?
