i got my Big One pipe.
Image

this pipe uses a Manifold instead of bolting to the cylinder via a flange.this manifold comes with the pipe itself.
Image

the pipe installed on the bike.i am still using the FMF Turbine core 2 silencer and it all works quite well. i had previously installed the European front fender in the Sunshine red color to match the other plastics, now to get that tank repainted.
Image

Image

it did seem to loose a little off the bottom end but the engine is much more willing to rev out. at the 21 second mark in the video below the bike hits 70 mph and this was in 4th gear. i may gear this down a bit in the future however to make better use of 5th and 6th gears.

Image

the video was made with the 24 mm carb installed.i have the 26 mm carb on it now and after some tuning i will then make another video.

thanks Bob! it is great to hear from you! there has been some bad blood between myself, Deet and Boaktiger and I no longer trust them.Chayzed has been here and he is known as Scootern29.looks like i am not the only one that has left.

I miss all you guys there but due to a couple of people I am not going to mess with it too much.

with that aside.here is a little update on the 175.i finally got it to charge the battery.i bought this coil but it turned out it is not needed,it turned out to be the rectifier and the lighting coil on the bike compared to the nos coil has the exact same values so the original coil is fine.i read somewhere it was to be 3.0 ohms but that is not the correct resistance.it is supposed to be 0.3 ohms, either i misread the spec or something like that.oh well,it does not hurt to have a spare one as these are no longer available from Yamaha.i got one before they got rare and very expensive.
Image

i also dropped a tooth on the counter shaft sprocket,i now have 15/49 gearing and it pulls 5th and 6th much better.
Image

i also got a NOS LH switch assembly and new levers and perches for both clutch and brake.I intend to replace the RH switch in the future.that switch has a short plus it is worn looking.
Image

Image

i also started getting the tank I Bought earlier ready for new decals and paint.
Image

it is in better shape than the one currently on the bike and on the inside it it is also much better there as well.
here is a pic of the tank on the bike,it has some nasty damage on this side.
Image

first i removed the tank decals.
Image

the replacement tank does have some dings to attend to.

I got the Sunshine Red paint from RS Paints, here is a link.http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-us/colours.php the paint itself is a great match compared with the good plastics on the bike.they have paint for certainly most makes and models, they have paint for Honda which i plan to order more paint for the other Yamaha and the Hondas i have.

this is the Sunshine Red paint that is used on US model DT175 and the pin stripe for the 1971 RT1B 360.
Image

Image
this paint is a great match!
Image

Image

Image

Image

the paint itself is reasonably priced but the shipping is very expensive as they make and ship the paint from the UK.

well, onto the next phase,I debated on posting this as it did not turn out as nice as I wanted. In hindsight I should had left the old one on and put this very thin reprocution one on.it is the decal for the key switch.
Image

well, you learn by mistakes and I sure did,I removed the old decal plate.
Image

Image

the result is not quite what I desired.....

I ordered the Decal set which has not arrived yet and the Spray Max clear coat which is already here.
Image

this is the Spray Max clearcoat that has it's own hardener, when getting ready to spray, you depress the part under the can then it is ready to spray.it should be fuel and chemical resistant unlike the conventional spray can clear coats, gasoline attacks the regular clear and destroys it.that should not happen with this stuff.pot life is 3 days after releasing the hardener.
Image

the hardener release I spoke of earlier.the Red button that goes here is not visible in this shot.
Image

I also got a new Genuine owners manual for the bike.I found this on Ebay.
Image

I also got a picture of this 1978 DT brochure,it will help me with the correct placement of the decals.
Image

more coming up when everything shows up!

I got my Clearcoat,it is Spraymax Urathane clear coat.this has a hardener release that is built into the spray can.when you are ready to use it you press in a button on the bottom of the can to release the hardener, pot life is 48 hours.it cures in 24 hours.it added quite a bit of gloss.
Image

Image

got the decals, now to apply them.
Image

Image

then you apply the clear coat over the decals.
Image

Image

after letting it sit I put it on the bike, yes I know my decal application is not that good.I will have to redo it someday.
Image

Image

I will have to clean it up good and get some glamour shots of it....

I got a front brakelight switch......
Image

I think the switch is a reproduction and I know the lever perches are repops too.

unfortunately they do not like each other much.the switch fits very loose inside the brakelight switch bore and the clasp will not hold the switch in.
Image

well,I tapped the small hole for 4 mm and used a set screw.i rode the bike some since and it is holding up great.
Image

well,I cleaned up the bike some and took some pictures.it is a good looking rider but not too much a show bike.
Image

Image

Image

Image

By the way,I ended up doing a fuel test by accident on the tank, the Spraymax clear did not break down at all!

Hey, Dave, I'm new on this site. But i just have a question? Where could you find a seat, kick start, front fender and those side panels for a bike like that? I have a 1980 which is pretty well the same but needs those. Most important is seat and kick start but those others would be nice. Let me know if you know a good place to find stuff and I will keep looking myself. Thanks. Boyder12
