Hi, new to the forum, and I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the throttle sticking on older yamahas. I am currently working on a 1970 RT1 360, and the slide for the throttle assembly in the carburator, keeps getting stuck in the up position. Do you think I need a new carb, I was thinking maybe the cylinder is warped?

Over-tightening the two cylinder nuts
could warp the throat enough to bind the slide.

I would remove the carb and run the slide by hand to see if it is
still binding or to locate[feel] the exact spot where it is binding.

Inspect the inside of the carb throat and slide, for shiny wear spots.
Locate the alignment tab, on the exhaust side of the carb throat.
Make sure it is there. The slide aligns and only goes in, one-way.

I always install the cable and test the slide, by turning to full-throttle and
releasing a couple of times-listening for the slide-hitting-bottom slam,
before bolting to the engine.

Also, this way, you know for sure that the slide isn't sticking and that
it was installed the correct way.

That way, you can tell if anything has changed, after installing.

After installing the carb(before starting), turn to full-throttle a couple
of times, then release - listen for the telltale slide-hitting-bottom slam.
