Well - I went to start my "new" 78 440 and broke the kick starter shaft instead. I pulled the side cover off and can see the mechanism. Every thing looks good except the broken shaft. Is the shaft pressed into the half moon gear? How do you remove and replace the shaft? Where is the best place to get a new shaft? Thanks.

i had to do the same thing exept our shaft was bent. i have a 68 maico 360 there about the same engine. you have to remove the clutch basket to remove the shaft, and yes it's presseed together. becarefull with the spring though. try maicoonly.com or erics in pasadena california.

If you don't mind driving to Kingwood (North Houston) I'll help you fix it.

As you need to have 2 clutch tools to remove the clutch.

Just let me know.

Howard
