Hi all. I just got started on my first foray into vintage bike fixing up/restoring. A couple months ago I picked up a 85 (not quite vintage material) yamaha i.t 200 for $100.00. I put a new piston and rings and cleaned it up a bit and it's a good runner. My current fixer upper is a 1974 Kawasaki Trail 90. I need to bore it and get a new piston and rings. The last couple of days I stripped it to the frame and painted the frame, swingarm, kickstand, foot peg bar. The bike was given to me by my daughters b.f. So far I got about $15 in it for paint.I need to split the cases cuz the rings were broken and peices are inside the crankcase. I dont know if I will tackle that or I will prob bite the bullet and take it to a shop. The gas tank is in excellent shape. On a scale of 1 to 10 the tank would have to be a 9! It has ZERO dents and I discovered a couple pinholes opposite the fuel drain. No sweat tho, I will weld those up and bead blast it and get it ready to paint. Now to find some paint.Anyway, that's my story for now. Any and all advice will be much appreciated! :)

Just like new cars, most new bikes tend to be all alike. The older stuff had personality! I love fixing the old bikes up.

Hey a response! Cool. Well heres an update. The engine is done and back in the bike. Several months ago I was cranking it over by hand looking for a spark. The P.O told me that it needed a coil. Anyway, the kick start lever stripped out and in disgust I put the bike in the shed. I looked on ebay nd k.s levers were going for 75 to $90. So, a few weeks ago I got a parts bike for $100. I got a new coil friday and fiddled with it yesterday still no spark. I'm going to post up on the junkmans site for some wire connections advice and go from there.

Heres a couple of before pics of the kawi and a couple of my old yamaha when I brought it home.
