I have a question concerning my 71 TM 400. I have owned it for more than a dozen years and bought it as a number matching bike. The serial number is stamped in the neck and matches the motor. Did the 71 have a plate on the neck? This one does not, only the stamped number. The previous owner said it was correct and was not molested.
I would be interested in hearing from other 71 owners.
I won't tell you how old I am but I bought a 71 TM 400 brand new in 71 and I was in my mid twenties.

Most of the older bikes I have seen have only had the number stamped in the neck. Once you get to the late 70's early 80's then they started using plates and stickers.

I just bought a 71 TM 400 today. It has a plate riveted to the steering head, actually partially concealing the stamp underneath. You should be able to see the 2 little holes where the rivets would have been. Mark
