Ive placed a WTB ad for a carb for my 1973/4 CR250 top end im fitting to my MT in the hope someone will have an old CR carb theyre not using. I know the 73 and 74 will be the ones to get, but should i also be looking for other years or even other models of bike or is the carb generic even?

Once i can find an inlet manifold i can use (has anyone ever repaired the rubber part on a perished original?) then Im ready to build this engine up and whack it in my frame... exciting! :D

Mine had a few dry rot type of cracks on the outside. I cleaned it up with simple green & then filled them with black permatex.

I just checked with my source for vintage parts to see if he had an extra intake manifold for you. Unfortunately he does not. Have you tried Honda to see if by chance they might still be available? If not... I'm afraid that eBay is going to be your best shot.

Most likely eBay will be your best shot for a carb also. That's where I bought mine.

I had an aftermarket cr manifold on my mt setup before I went to a reed valve setup it cost 120 when I got it. They accept the 34 and 36mm carbs I think. I already sold mine but I think you can get them at www.amsracing.com

Man everyones going out of bussiness sorry but I dont think anyone makes the aftermarket manifolds anymore. I am really glad my tranny got backcut by jastco as there site is gone now too. Anyways there are a lot of manifolds on ebay and they are nos. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-IN ... 1c1c60bee1

Thanks guys!

Ive been looking on ebay and im not wholly sure about the 'nos' ones, they seem more likley to be newly maufactured copy units, but im sure they will work fine. I may still cut the rubber/plastic off the one i have and investigate using a piece of pipe, just because 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' etc.

Carbs seems few and far between for the 73/74 CRs, did they use the same carb on other models?

How about this one?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MIKUNI-3 ... 3cbb12d061

Most likely you will have to pick up a "generic" carb in the size that you want & learn how to jet it. That's what I'm having to do with my MT/CR 250. Keep an eye on eBay for a 34mm or maybe even a 36mm Mikuni, or a Keihin if you prefer. I don't know much about jetting a Mikuni & even less about the Keihin, but I'm learning. Ultimately you should have an exhaust gas temperature (EGT) gauge to keep you out of trouble. I have been relying upon a cylinder head temperature gauge that also works. It's just not as reliable or as fast reading as the EGT guage.

Good luck
