Does anyone know if rear shocks off of a 79 CR 250 will fit on my 78 CR 250? And also how smart is it buying used shocks? Should I just buy some new ones somewhere(if thats possible), and if so where is a place or wut kind of price am i looking at?

Thanks

Yes, the shocks will fit. New shocks are always preferred, but there are used shocks that you can't buy new any more, like the Fox Air Shox. These shox usually bring somewhere between $200 - $350 depending on whether they need to be rebuilt or not. If you use other more conventional shocks, the prices vary depending on quality. Works Performance shocks are great but will run you close to $400 for new ones. Look for used shocks on the Elsinore Swap Meet or on eBay. Good luck!

Do not waste your time with the stock shocks unless the ones you are getting are in excellent condition and you care more for the original look than performance. Stock shocks from 1978 through 1980 can be inter-changed, and the 1980 ones can be re-built.

You can fit after-market shocks providing they are 17.5" long measured eye-to-eye, including Fox Shox, Ohlins, Works Performance etc. If you do pick up shocks on eBay or a swap meet factor into the price probably having them re-built because of leaking seals or because they do not suit your weight, riding style etc. A new set of Works Performance set up specifically for you are your bike can be a very attractive option.
