finally got the timing sorted out. the new points i put in were not fitting right. put the old set back in, adjusted till they just started to open on the F mark. stuck the timing light on and perfect. nice blue spark, and lines were matching when the strobe lit.

Now another problem has come up. Decided to put a little gas in carb, no tank on it yet and see if it would fire. first kit and she started. But i got lots of nasty white smoke and oil dripping from exhaust flange, plus some around one of the head bolts.

i put in new seals , maybe i stuck one in backwards. i sure hate the thought of tearing that engine down again. but the bore was not perfect and decided to try it anyway. just was'nt expecting oil.

a condensor when it goes bad causes some nasty arcing across the points and you can see this through the apertures of the spinning flywheel.might hook up a remote fuel tank and run the engine and rev it up while looking to see if the coil wire or coil itself is breaking down, you may see sparks which means the coil is shorting.also look for cracks and or breaks in the spark plug high tension lead or the case on the coil itself.

may also have a wire in the harness that has a intermittent short and the frequency of the vibration increases with revs and that could make it more apt to short.

wish i was there to look at it with you as this one has me very curious! :o

I got the timing corrected. I put new condenser on and adjusted points till they just started to open on F mark.
Checked with timing light and dead on. Fires off on first kick.
