Hi

1974 Honda CR 250 kickstarter problem. The pawl part of the kickstarter gear is worn out. Does anyone know if this part if avalable from Honda, and if so would it be wise to also replace the gear?

Lee- You have a common problem with the early CR's.I had a 74 250 in 1976 and was having this trouble back then.I hear that you can use MR 250 parts, which is what I own now and if memory is correct they look the same.Service Honda at 219-932-9332 or 800-828-5498 lists them but that does not mean you can get them. Part# 28255-357-010 for the pawl and 28210-357-020 for the gear. I haven't been into CR's for over 28yrs and since Mr Honda passed away, parts for all vintage Hondas are hard if not imposable to get. The story goes that when Honda 1st came here he made a commitment to always provide parts. I rebuilt my friends 74 250 in 1994 and was able to get most parts from my dealers stock, this being a dealer who was with Honda from the start. Maybe someone else on the board with more current info can help. Gary

My 1974 CR 125 kick starter return spring was broke so I purchased one on EBAY along with the shaft which I don't need. I know yours is a 250 but you can compare the shaft with yours and if they look similar your welcome to it. Hope the URL works for ya. Might have to copy and paste it.
