When i am rebuilding the motor on 74 mt 250 i would kind of like to repaint. I have noticed that the motor is an off brown colour and not black. Is there a special paint code that would give that colour? How would you prep? ETC ETC if any body has had any experience with this it would be appreciated. Just wondering if any of you guys have done this with good results? Thanks in advance

IMHO: MTs may never reach the status of some bikes. As such doing an accurate restoration is not really critical other then for your own satisfaction. Matter of fact, for some enthusiast, original paint no matter how funky is preferable to fresh.

Unless the engine paint really bad I would return the bike as close to as new functionality as possible and get it registered/licensed for the street. I have seen MTs at that level sell for ~$1,200-$2,600 depending on mileage.

If you do need a new cylinder/head, I would go shopping on eBay and find a clean set with original paint.
