Vintage Dirt Bike Q & A

Hey Guys, I have an '83 CR480 with a bad rear hub. Bought one off ebay, guy said it was an '83 but it is actually an '82. I have read that an '82 wheel will work on an '83 but the circumference of the bearings, collar etc. are too small for my '83 axle to go through. Checked the part numbers on an online microfishe site and '82 & '83 axle are same part number. I am lost, please help, this is the last thing I need to get rolling, Thanks very much, Greg.

hi mate the 81 82 and 83 bikes run the same rear axle i have ad all three models in 125 and 250 and interchanged the axles and wheels onm them all
so use the stock bearings if the axe doesnt fit its not getting past a wear lip in the inner bearing case
