Ok all you really smart Honda people here's one for you. I found a really nice complete 83 cr250, but it has corroded in the water pump area. One of the nipples that the hose connects to has broken off. Now can I weld something on as a new connection or what about threading it and putting a stainless nipple as a new connection. Are these magnesium? Can magnesium be welded? Can you still get an impeller? Thanks Chris

The casting is aluminum and can be welded (just like magmesium) with a TIG. Ideally, it would be best to reweld the piece
that broke off. If you don't have that, you will have to fabricate something from aluminum that can be welded on. Once
done, dress the outside and inside with a grinder especially areas where coolant flows, pressure check for leaks, paint
and install.

The impeller is still available from: http://www.bikebandit.com or http://www.cmsnl.com and possibly from http://www.westernhillshondayamaha.com

Good luck.

magnesium cant be welded by conventional means.the metal itself will burn.
