Vintage Dirt Bike Q & A

I am getting ready to swap out my swingarm on my 1980 cr250. I picked up a $10 1983 cr480 swingarm that will do the job i think. I have a few mods i want to make to the swingarm. I plan on welding in a plate top and bottom to fill in the linkage void, should make for a stronger, more ridgid peice. Then i am going to swap on an 84 CR250/500 chain slider. This will involve some drilling and tapping and welding in the old holes but should be a good upgrade since the 1983 peice is obsolete. The swingarm i purchased was missing the chain guide at the sprocket so i will have to fab something up for that, i think i may look at using a banshee guide since there are a ton of aftermarket options for them and easy to find replacements. the last thing i want to do is move the axle forward, i dont want anymore wheelbase than i already have. If this proves to be a pain i may scap that idea but hopefully i can make some gain in that area. I will post up pics as the project moves along. Feel free to comment!
