I have a PP Tony D fender on it and it has gotten sun faded and brittle, but I just won a NOS one on ebay so that is going on it soon, would like to find a set of FIM Fox sidepanels to replace the DG ones. Anyone?

That is just unreal, and 2 days left on the auction, I bet they get close to 2200.00 before its over, man our bikes just keep appreciating

...well your Fox Forx and swing arm are. I would argue all the effort you've put into the rest of the bike would not be covered by a sale price with those parts removed. Which just means you need to love doing this, not be after a quick buck.

Is there a reason for the Fox forks being so expensive? I mean did they really work that well compared to everything else?

Comparing Fox forks to the stock forks, there's no comparison, the stock forks flexed terribly and the damping was even worse, Fox forks make the Hondas feel like a different bike, very confidence inspiring, back in the day "79" I had a 250R with Fox Air shox, stock forks and swingarm, I could not hold that bike in the track, one lap it would be perfect in the corner the next I would be off the track, years later with the bike I have now its nothing like the stocker. I wish I had the Fox stuff back then, I wouldn't have crashed so often and maybe even placed a few times.

As far as the price, Fox probably only made a thousand sets or so for several different bikes so the ones made for the Hondas were seldom seen even back in the day and even more so here in the South East. I can recall seeing one set of Fox forks in 79 and only began seeing more of them since getting into VMX.

I would guess that in Californa and the west they saw quite a bit more of the aftermarket items, being so close to the manufacturers and hop up shops, kinda like being here as far as stock car racing.

A better functional comparison is between Fox Forx and the AHRMA-legal (and everywhere else) 1981 41mm Showas, 1982 41mm Kayabas, and 1983 43mm Showas. The latter with a complete rebuild and Race Tech springs, bushings, seals and Gold Valves these'll run you about $500-$600. The stock forks are challenging, but for curiosity I am going to build and try a set with a Simons upgrade kit....

The very first forks I put on my bike when I restored it were the 81 41mm Honda forks and they were a tremendous improvement over the stock 37mm ones, try the stock ones Michael and even with mods your eyes will be opened as to hard bad they are.
As far as performance the 81-83 forks are just as good and probably better than Fox forks especially with a Race Tech kit in them its just that the Fox forks have such a visual impact.

$2,500 for Ohlins works shocks (see the swap meet), $1,200 for original Fox swing arm, $1,800 for Fox Forx....strewth!

The forks are up to 2275.00, unbelievable . this stuff is better than money in the bank. They don't even have the Fox triple clamps

Back in 93 when I first restored my 250R I was buying parts 10% over dealer, fenders were 20.00 each, cylinders 175.00, new gas tank for a 75 250 $135.00 and it was all available, especially for the 78-80 bikes but not anymore, wish I had had the forthought to stock up on that stuff.

You guys have really got my get me wondering about these things. Mine are mounted on a ~"I'll throw this in for $xxx" 1976 MR250 basket case. They've been sitting out in the rain for a year or two. I think I will have to clean them up a bit and mount them on one of my running 250s to see what all the fuss is about.

I pulled that off an 82 KTM 250, I think it was an 82, the bolt head has to be ground down a little to clear the kick start but otherwise is good, and has a folding tip. Its the perfect size as far as shaft and splines.
