Post subject:  Oil in Exhaust pipe

I just bought a 87 CR 125 and I want to restore it. I noticed an oil leak from the exhaust pipe and I took of the pipe. When I took off the pipe it had about an ounce of oil like premix or something in the pipe. I am new to this but is that normal? What do you think is causing that?

Thank you for your time
David

It isn't normal in a well tuned bike with all the engine seals in good working order.

Premix at 32:1 or higher ratios burns pretty clean. You should just see a wisp of smoke coming out the exhaust.

The pipe gets pretty hot too. It should burn off anything that gets in there. They sometimes plug up, but due to carbon build up vs. a puddle of oil.

It could be more then one thing. I get double teamed more times then I like to admit. If it is one thing I would guess you are running a bit to rich for one reason or another. Sticky float, dirty air cleaner, wrong jetting, that kind of stuff.

Assuming all the seals are OK I'd suspect that your carb jetting is on the rich side.

I run oil at 40:1 (Gold Spectro) and if I'm running rich I get the same oily deposits in my pipe.
