I'm restoring a 78 CR250 and need to get some replacement rims. (the old DID's were cracked) What are most people using? Excel? If so will any Excel rim (with same # of spokes) for a Honda work. In talking to a few people they mention that most new will need drilling (spoke size and angle)... Anyone share their experience and fill me in thanks |

When I found my DID rim cracked I had an Excel laced up to the CR480R front hub. I believe it was a pre-drilled rim, but the only color was silver. Other colors are available but you'll need have a blank drilled specially for the drum hub. I had them use stronger larger gauge spokes and nipples. It's not period correct but I also user silver Pit Posse rim lock nuts that cover the whole of the threaded part of the bolt. Cleaner look. |

my job was even easier - took my hubs to the local spoke services shop - he knew 78 CR's and then I chose rim colour, stainless spokes and away he goes. Even ordered tyres and tubes at the same time - surprising what you can find when you go to the right place. cheers Rossco |
