I have the opportunity to buy a 1974 CR125M engine for my 1976 bike.

Will it fit straight in?

Is it a decent engine?

Any help/thoughts most appreciated.

I believe the 74 CR-125 engine will bolt into the 76 frame. Years ago I bought a 76 CR which had a 74 CR-125 top end. The cylinder carb intake, porting and cylinder head are different for the 76 engine, and the exhaust flange slightly larger than the 74. The stock 76 top end gives significantly more power than the stock 74 in my opinion, because I have ridden both bikes. A Larger carb and cylinder porting (or the 75 "GP" cylinder) can make the 74 much more responsive, so I think you have a good starting point if the 74 engine you have located is solid.
