Vintage Dirt Bike Q & A

I have a 1975 MT250 and have had enough diffuclties with the injection so it is going to the discard pile, but, I was wondering if oil will seep across from the gear that turns the pump, so far I have removed the oil pump, and plugged the hole in the intake manifold. What else is needed

IMO: Leave everything attached and in place. The effort to take the nylon gear drive out is substantial and you would have to make a plate to cover the hole. Of course you can remove stuff like the oil tank but I would save that too.

Sounds like you got it covered. I plugged the intake on my 76 MT125.
I agree, oil injection scares the daylights outa me. I've seen plenty of failures. For my money, mix!

All I did on my MT250 was unhook all the connections to feed oil to and from the pump plug and removed the oil tank. And I mix the gas. I wouldn't even use the oil injection on a brand new or almost brand new oil injected bike, you never know when it'll stop. And when it does then you'll know it... So I'd just leave the pump where it is is remove all the stuff for it you wont have any leaks of oil as long as the seal is good.

thanks guys, looks like it worked, but my question now is i will be using this for partly street, so i was wondering any math genisus out there know a simple equasion i can use at the gas station, oh ya down in canada fuel is measured in litres

I live in Canada also. For 5 litres mixed at 30:1, I estimate about 160 ml's of 2-stroke oil (which is what I run in my MT250 and works great and has good protection) I estimate using the little measuring thing on the side of the oil contaner where it says how many ml's of oil is left in the container. I add a good part of the 160 ml's then add a little each other pour to make sure theres not too much or too little.
