I've recently acquired a 1976 MR175 which needs a new flywheel. I was thinking of converting it to a CDI system. Does anyone know if the rotor/stator assembly from a 1981 CR250 will fit? Is there a better choice or should I try to find an original flywheel and keep the points system. Thanks |

The MR175 engine is based on the 74-78 CR125 engine and you can replace the MR175 stator and rotor with a CR125 stator and rotor. Its an easy bolt-on replacement. You would need to use the CR125 CDI unit and coil as well. The CR125 stator has no lighting coil to power the headlight and taillight. Using CR250 components would involve a lot more work. Good luck. |

Thanks for the info. I had another look at the parts I was given with the bike. There were two flywheels that looked similar. Only one seemed to fit properly but it has a crack along the keyway. I don't think I should use this one as it will probably shatter eventually as well as wearing down the points rubbing block very quickly. Does anyone have a used flywheel they would be willing to part with? |
