Post subject: | CR80 sizing |
Hello everyone. It has been a while since I have posted here. My '74 MT250 is rockin and rollin ![]() I have a questions about a 1984 CR80. I am showing my 14 year old newfie the virtues of vintage dirt bikes and we are trying to decide on a bike for him. He is an experienced rider and currently riding a TTR125. Does a mid-'80's CR80 produce enough power to pull him around? Would a CR125 be a better option? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Newfie P.S. Anyone interested in some good dirt bike riding here in Newfoundland, just give me a shout. ![]() Newfie |

Age doesn't really give a good physical description of your son to base an educated answer to your question. How tall is he? How much does he weigh? Answers to these questions will help get the correct answer to your question. |

Not quite as direct as you would like but... My brother built up a YZ80 or RM80 for his grandson and after test riding it said ~"They have to be nuts putting this much horse power in a bike intended for 10 year olds.' Just cracking the throttle would produce wheelies. I assume the Honda would have similar performance. I also have a kitted XR75 I built for my grandson. Perforance isn't nearly as good as a two stroke of course but it is one of the favorite rides around my house while it waits for my grandson to come of age. http://www.calvmx.com/story41.htm The smaller bikes, not just the XRs, were extremely hard fought class in their day and it continues with parts and support even now. I think Jeff Ward had a CR80 with a downsized CR125 engine to make displacement restrictions for his ride. |
