Hello, Need some help, my 74cr250m when running, it wont shift to 2nd, and it wont shift past 2nd either, gets a little grinding felling like its trying to go but it wont. when the bike is not running it will shift thru all the gears. I can start the bike in 3rd and it will shift up thru the rest of the gears fine, when you shift back down and get to 1st, same problem as before, wont shift up. I THe bikes has set for some time so I drained all the case oil and put a light weight oil in the gear case, and ran with it trying to flush the cases with no luck. Thanks for any help, cbly |

You can start off by checking the actual shifter on the outside of the cases to make sure its not slipping (worn out splines). If thats tight then you need to go inside and check the gear shift spindle action. You will need to remove the clutch, then work the spindle/gearshift and see if its turning the shift drum properly ( the spindle can bend and not work , you can also pull it out without seperating the cases if defective) If this fails you need to crack open the cases and check the tranny... |
