I saw a old cylinder and head Bead Blasted. I never had anything bead blasted and wanted to know is this a good way to clean up a old cylinder or a head. Is bead blasting only good for outside of a motor part. Does bead blasting hurt the inside of the cylinder or inside of the head. The photo is a cylinder and head that was bead blasted. ![]() ![]() |

There are many types of media that can be used to clean parts...Depends on what you expect the final finish to look like.If your doing a nut and bolt museum resto and you dont want to alter the metal in any way, try using walnut shells, plastic media, soda or a chemical stripper. This usually uses less psi which will cause less damage or texture changes to the metal.Make sure you cover any machined, metal to metal gasketed surfaces with a heavy tape or gasket(so you maintain a good sealing surface) and I would mask exposed studs or threaded holes as well. Also clean and re-clean all the parts that come back from the stripper as to not contaminate your engine or parts during re-assembly. eL |
