Post subject: | MR250 sprocket size question |
My bike has stock 14 front and 47 rear. I bought new chain and called sprocket specialist to order new sprockets. They had the 14 front. They were out of the 47 and 48 rear. My choice was 46 or 49. I went ahead and ordered the 46 thinking it was closest to what I am used to and like well enough. Now, I'm wondering though. Will I notice much difference than the 47?? For trail riding, do you think I should have ordered the 49?? Thanks |

I don't think that 1 tooth difference on the rear will be noticeable. I think I've heard that 1 tooth on the front equals 3 on the back. The Honda parts book shows front came in 13,14 or 15. The rear came in 47,48 or 51. |

1T smaller on the rear will have only a minor impact in raising the gearing. I did same on my CR250R from 49 down to 48 and it was near un-noticeable... |

For $12.99, I think I'll also go ahead and order a 13 front sprocket. Then, If I don't like the 14-46 combination, I can get a little more low speed power by sticking the 13 on the front. I went to my local Cycle Gear to order these sprockets and had them in a week. Thanks guys! |

Took my wheel off yesterday to change a couple of bad spokes (not as easy as I hoped if the spoke isn't on the outside of a pair) and put on new gears. The reason I liked my power so much was that I didn't have a 14 on the front, previous owner had put a 13 up there. I just assumed I had the original 14. That would explain why first gear was basically useless unless I was climbing. But it sure is nice to have the power when you need it. So I'm definitely going to order a 13 front. I have enough problems with jetting/plugs without bogging down because I'm overgeared for how I'm riding. Sigh.... |
