Post subject:  Elsinore engine rebuild

I am new to this forum and new to vintage motocross. I recently
purchased 1974, 1976 and 1979 CR250 Elsinores that I want to
restore. I am not building "hanger queens", instead I want to
bring the bikes back to the new condition you experienced that
first day when you brought your pride and joy home from the
dealer and fired it up. These bikes will be ridden and possibly
raced once I quit racing contemporary bikes.

I want to do most of the restoration myself but, due to time, lack
of experience and special tools, I will farm out the gas tanks and
bottom end work.

My question is who to send it to. Can anybody recommend a
a reliable shop that does good work?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

I am restoring my gas tanks myself, and as far as the motor, I sent mine to Sam Alexander @ jastco, I dont know if he is taking on any more work, you would just have to get ahold of him and see, Suppose to be one of the best around on elsinore bottm ends. Good luck and welcome to the world of going fast the old school way.

http://www.racerstoystore.com/ I have previously sent my '79 CR250R engine here for a bottom-end rebuild. FYI Honda only sells complete cranks, but they can split them and use a better IMS Hot Rod kit from a '84 ATC250R.

I have spoken with Sam about tuning for my '79 CR250R and he can do magic on the carb and cylinder. Jastco also makes the best chain guide for that bike, way better than stock.
