Post subject:  1980 front forks

Hello CR friends. I'm putting together a cool looking 1980 cr250r to race in the EVO and was thinking of up gradeing my front forks. I'm 200lbs and was wondering if the 81 cr450r forks are any better then the ones that came with the 80 250. are the sizes the same? thanks Scott

See Redrocket's response to my post below regarding "Fork Upgrade for '79 CR250." The '81s are 41mm, which I suspect are larger than those on an '80 but I'm not sure.

I upgraded to the 81 forks on my other 80 250,which are 41mm, had a tough time finding them and then even harder time finding a tree. You'll probably have better luck with the 82-83 which are 43mm.

Got mine off ebay, seems like the 1980 stuff has slowed down here of late.

I would go with the 43mm Showas from 1983. You are going to need a stiffer fork spring over stock, and some re-valving. Race Tech might be able to do this for the older forks, but I know they can do it for the 1983s...
