Post subject:  CR250 to MT250 ignition swap

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping one of you fellow Elsinore fans can answer this for me please.

Will a 1974 Honda CR250 ignition fit a 1974 Honda MT250? I know that the crank on the MT250 is different to the 74 CR250 on the ignition side but I guess what I am really asking is, is the crank taper the same?

I am looking at putting a HPI ignition on my MT/CR250 hybrid and if the crank taper is the same, the HPI 1974 CR250 ignition should fit with the addition of a spacer under the clamping nut.

I'd really appreciate it if someone can answer this for me as I'm struggling to find out this information.

Thanks in advance,
Grae

Hi Guys,

I was hoping someone would either know this or be able to check this out for me?

I think the crank taper on the 73/74 CR250 is the same as the crank taper on the MT250 but as I don't have both bikes, I can't check. Surely someone could give me an answer to this?

I don't really want to spend the money on a HPI ignition for a 73/74 CR250 if it won't fit the MT250 crank.

I'd be really grateful if someone could help me out with this.

If the tapers are the same, I will buy the HPI ignition and let you guys know how the swap goes and give details of the spacer that will be needed under the flywheel nut so others can go down this route.

Thank you in advance,
Grae
