Post subject: | Fork Disassembly Problems Help PLEASE! |
Trying to disassemble my MT250 forks to replace the seals. I cannot remove the allen bolt from the bottom of the fork. It just spins and spins. I think that this bolt screws into the damper rod. Is this correct? Is there any way to get it not spin? |

There is normally a factory tool for holding the top of the damping rod, but if you can see the shape of it sometimes you can make a tool by grinding down an old socket. However, you would be surprised how often this trick works. Hold the top of the damping rod with a wooden broom stick handle. And then undo the allen with an impact wrench or air-powered wrench. If it is the first time, it won't hurt to let a little penetrating oil seep down into the threads of the bolt. |

Put the springs back in and screw the caps back on. Then turn the fork upside down and push down while hitting the allen bolt with an air impact. The pressure from the spring may stop the innards from moving long enough to get the bolt out. |
