Hello to all and a big thank you to the host of this board. I recently purchased my third elsinore however it is my first in 25 years!
The bike is a 1979 cr 250 and i am currently doing a restoration on it to get ready for a summer of riding.
I have gone thru the archives and ansewered many of my questions on the project excellent info thanks.
Two questions for now. The pipe is mangled and the shocks are original equipment.
Has anybody used the exhuast that vintage iron offers? Also is anybody running the progressive supension shocks they offer would like like to go with ohlins or works but both are out of my buget.
Once again thanks to the host and all that take time to respond.

Dino, welcome to the club! I got some Progressives with the heavier springs from Rick at Vintage Iron and they are working fine. I bought them with the intention to ride and see how things go, as I also am back into bikes after 30 years . Maybe Works Performance down the road.
Being new too, don't know about the pipes, theres a stock dented one on ebay(4642346816). Keep us posted on how your doing.
I'm having a footpeg dilema right now, can't justify the pricey pegs, so I just keep watching ebay and surf around til something comes along.

If you want a second-hand stock pipe I have one. If you want to go after-market then Vintage Iron is as good as any. I suspect that theirs is being made locally and it is the same people that are being Pro Form Racing. I have one of their pipes and it is excellent. You will be looking at $300 all-in. An investment in shocks would be a higher priority. I am not familiar with Progressives, but can personally recommend Works Performance Gassers and second-hand Fox Shox (rebuilt by Brian Rivers). Either way you are looking at - again - $300.

Garry and Michael thanks for the response. I beleive i will go with the Vintage Iron products as i want to get this project going. I am certain i will have additional questions.
Has anybody purchased items from the vmx site(former red-racer?) i am looking to replace the plastic with a product similar to original. Most companies seem to offer the matte finish products such as DC plastics.
Thanks.

From all of my research VMX Racing bought the molds from Red Racer and these plastics are much nicer than the DC Plastics. Here is the link, I just ordered all of my plastics from them this morning.

Let us know how you get on. If the result is the same as the Red Racer product I would spring for another set of plastic for "best"...

I've ordered both paint & plastics from vmx with excellent results.
If you do not see what you need on the website contact them they may have it anyway. ie... 1974 cr125m rear fender in red.

I will let you know when it arrives, this CR480 project is getting expensive quickly - I think I am going put up for sale my 1982 Yamaha YZ100J to fund the project.

The plastic side panels that I received from VMX Racing are identical to the ones that I received, and the other ones that I never received from Red Racer. They are from the "same" mold.
I also had some Mugen Style side panels from DC Plastics that made their way to the dumpster last Saturday. They would have fit the bike if I removed the pipe and left it off.
I wasn't too excited about the finish, either. You get what you pay for.

I am looking for a decent set of sidepanels for my 1976 125CR.

The DC Plastics ones I have are a really sloppy fit.

Any help please guys. Thank you.
