Which way do you go to lean out a carb .Does the lower the number lean it or do I need to go the other way ?

Lower numbers on pilot and main jets mean smaller holes, less fuel and leaner. Turning the air screw out means more air for the same size pilot jet, so leaner too. Move the clip on the needle higher towards position #1, leaner.
