Someone just gave me an 83 CR250! The motor was overheated and locked up and the plastic needs replacing, but it is complete.

What is your most dependable source for 83 CR parts?

Is there any area you really need to watch on an 83 CR250?

Thanks for any help!

J

Try Western Hills Honda. http://www.westernhillshonda.com/

They've been pretty good with parts for my 73. Maybe they have a collection for you as well.

Only one problem that I know of - the stock hose that goes from the shock to the remote reservoir will rupture. Companies used to make (back in 1983) stainless steel braided ones to replace them with. Mine lasted a few months, most lasted less... I'd imagine that any hydraulic machine shop could make you one.

The FMF pipe worked good on that thing. They were called Roost Factory in 1983.

Great bike.

I have raced one of these bikes for the last two years and it is the best handling vintage CR I've ridden. I haven't had any problem with the rear shock, but I have had a problem with the piston. It was totally my fault, but I've included a picture of it for your amusement. If I hadn't have holed the piston the back of the piston would have broken apart and would have made a mess down in the crank area. It is now 5th over and can go up to 8. I have a DG pipe on it and I hate it. Not because of the power it makes, but because the pipe sticks way out and if I don't wrap a towel around my leg inside my boot I get burned badly. The front brakes are among the best for vintage bikes. You'll love this bike!

Nathan,

Do you know of any other pipes (FMF, Pro Circuit, etc.) that worked well on the 83 CR250? I was gonna get a DG pipe from their Vintage site, but I like the skin on my legs too much.

What shock do you run?

I have seen Pro Circuit pipes on eBay and picked up ones for the 1986 and 1987 CR250R, perhaps they have or you can find one for the 1983?
