Maybe a bit off subject but you can make one to perform and fit just like the stocker with a piece of foam sheet from the local craft store and some contact cement. Cost almost zero. I'm cheap

I ran a few searches, found some negative comments on the sketchy mounting of the Uni filters for a 78 CR250. Also read that the stocker is still available and fits fine. So, I called around today and it's 2-3 weeks minimum to get one. Has anyone ordered a stock filter lately and gotten it any quicker? Is the Uni really that bad? I have had very good luck with them on other bikes, and I am fairly certain it will filter better than the stocker. What exactly is the problem with the mounting? I would really rather spend a few more minutes adapting a better filter, than just have a perfect stock fit/look. My bike is for riding not show, FWIW. |

I ordered a stock filter unit a couple of weeks ago. My dealer had it for pickup in four days. I have a Uni filter also. The next time I get a Uni will be when there are no more stock ones available. I am not too thrilled with how the Uni fits and how it's held on by a zip tie. I don't see how anything could work better than the stock filter. I haven't had any problems, or leaks while using stockers over the last 28 years. |

I have a stash of NOS air filters specifically to avoid using either the Uni or Twin Air filters. Both are great filters generically - I use them on other bikes - but in this specific case the fit is inferior to stock. |

I ordered one for a '76 from a Honda dealer a while back. I had it in 4 days also. Now I don't know what the original OEM filters were like, but I have to say the new one I just got was unbelievably good quality and fit. Better than the aftermarket I had been using. |

I'm cheap Good luck....VanI have considered this! It can't be that hard. Do you have any pics of yours? You just used the regular white foam rubber stuff? Contact cement - is that the same as rubber cement? I'm cheap too, but I like to think of it as "value-conscious", or "resourceful".  I will probably go ahead and order a couple stockers, and try making one until they get here. If it will ever quit raining around here, maybe I'll get to ride. |

tracetrimble, I like to call it "frugal"  The color dosn't matter. I got a sheet of 1/2" foam that's yellow. Don't remember where I got it. Contact cement in a tube will work but I use the 3-M contact cement in an aresol can. Once you get the pattern down to duplicate your stock filter you can cut one out and glue it together in about 5 minutes. I spray a mist of WD-40 on it then slip it over the stock frame and attach with an appropriate rubber band. When I get a chance I'll do a "How to make a filter" with step by step pics. I hear ya about the rain  ...Van

Nice work. Have you oiled it and/or done a clean/reoil on it yet? I wonder why the Uni design is a PITA if it's so easy to make a copy of the stocker? - Trace |

pvc cement also makes excellent glue on the foam. Used to have to do this on an old Yamaha I had. |
