Does anyone out there know what part numbers i need on a excel rim for the front and rear of my 81 cr front is a 21 x1.60 and the rear is a 18 x 2.15 factory rims. im wanting to replace these with new excels in black or gold. My parts dealer says there available but i think he,s trying to rip my head off on price!!! If i had part numbers for these i could find a distributor myself. I think 1400.00 is a little steep for a set of new rims and spokes mounted up using my existing hubs! If you guys have any suggestions let me know!!!!!!!! ![]() |

I encourage you to call someone who specializes in this area for a quote and a detailed explanation of what is involved. I use Wheel Works here in Southern California but http://www.buchananspokes.com/ is well known. Excels are available in silver for vintage i.e. drum brake bikes so I had no problem with putting one on my 1983 CR480R for about $250 "all in". I am remembering that you might need to have a silver rim anodized or powder-coated black because the stock ones in black are not for drum brake hubs. That being said, there are plenty of vintage bikes around with black rims so it can be done. |
