i have a 1980 cr250r with a bad front wheel. i was given a wheel from a 1979 cr125. would it fit? and if so what would i have to do to get it to work? even if i have to respoke it to my hub that wouldnt be a problem the spoke count is the same. also i have a 21" wheel and this is a 23" wheel would it be ok to run for now? the bike will not be raced hard or beat up to badly. and if anybody knows where to get a good price on tires please let me know.
thanks, ryan

Ryan,

The stock '79 CR125R (23") complete front wheel will bolt up to the stock (OEM) front end of your '80 CR250R without any mods or issues, though it's not recommend because of the poor tire selection (I believe that Cheng Shin is the only supplier for them?). As far as the differences go between the two wheels, the '79 CR125R only shares the hub assembly with the '80 CR250R (as well as the '78/'79 CR250R's), the rest (spokes, tire, rim and spoke drive sprocket) are all different. Hope that helps...

Take care,
Robert

Won't you have to drop the forks in the triple clamps to make up for the larger front wheel?

Hey Robert,

Where can you get the Cheng Shin 23" tires? I'm switching to 21", but it would be nice to have a new tire on my old wheel. 8)
