Are you sure it is a MT vs. CR?The MT was the street/dual sport version of the MX CR.

Just my opinion but if it is still in street trim I would keep it as a dual sport and street legal if possible. The Honda dual sports sell for a premium, somewhere between $1000 and $2500 if they are perfect. If you want an all out racer a CR would be a better starting point and the sale of a street legal, registered, MT125 would get you a heck of a head start on a CR.

That being said, I have both MT250s and CR250s. Probably get lynched as a heretic but other then engine performance and weight, the bikes have quite a similar feel to them. IOW: If your MT has already been stripped, it will make a decent dirt bike. My first MT was stripped and all I did was rebuild it and with an after market expansion chamber it goes plenty fast to buck me off.
