Post subject:  Frame question

I picked up a very beat up Elsinore from a friend of a mechanic for $150.00

It is missing the pipe, half of the fins on the head are gone, plastics are trash, but the bottom end seems ok, the frame looks good, the forks seem ok, and the tank is better than most I've seen on ebay going for $300 plus.

The number on the frame is CR250M-2003456 which would indicate this is a 1975 Elsinore. But I'm curious about the mounting tab in the middle of the back of the frame where it looks like you would bolt it to the rear fender. I haven't seen a mounting tab like this on a CR frame before. Have I just missed that detail or ???

I've also been told to hang on to that bottom end as they were more reliable then the 74. I've heard a couple guys at the races say that third gear can be a problem in the 73 and 74 Elsinores, Is that true? I haven't had any problems with mine...

thanks,

Post subject:  Re: Frame question

The 75 and 76 models did have the tab on the rear of the frame for fender support. And, yes, the gears were improved and stronger on the 75-76 models too. Sounds like you have a good project. Maybe a cylinder head and pipe from the online auction site or the Swap Meet here, and some pretty new plastics from one of the companies listed under "resources." it's a lot of fun.
