Does anyone know of a source or have an alternative to the small plastic 90 degree fitting
that mounts the breather hose to the crankcase. Of course mine disintegrated when I
removed it.

Any help is appreciated.

This is considered part of the right-hand crankcase  You can however find these fittings at a hardware or auto parts store....

Thanks for the info. Good to hear a suitable replacement is available. I will take what's left of
mine and try to find something close at Ace or an auto parts.

Looking at a late model CR, Honda just sticks the vent hose in a hole in the crankcase -now that's
progress.

Thanks again.

i am assuming that the breather is basically just an elbow. no valve or anything in it.

I have had to put fittings into engine blocks before as a pulse line for a fuel pump. I first put the air gun into the oil filler spot where the oil cap goes and wired the air gun open so it was constantly blowing. I then drilled and tapped the hole where i wanted the fitting. the constant air pressure blew out all the filings and chips but i still changed the oil afterwards. Then i just screwed in a fitting and it was good to go. Hopefully this is fully or partially pertinent to your problem.

Thanks for the tip. I had to do something similar when I was installing a supercharger on my truck. One of the vacuum
fittings I needed was missing from the kit so I had to drill and tap the hole for a brass elbow after I had installed the
blower. You can imagine the damage those aluminum shavings would have done to the impeller blades if I had missed
any.

This engine is completely blown apart and the fitting is plastic and a press fit, so no problems with wayward shavings.

One interesting twist on these cases compared to my '73, these cases were painted inside and out by Honda. The '73
was only painted on the outside. I don't know if this was a nod to better oil flow (a common hotrod practice) or more
expedient on the production line. I have blasted these cases to bare metal and am going to powder coat the outside
and use a color matched glyptal paint on the inside preserving the original look with much better durability.
