 Hello, i just joined this site, but anyways i need some help on FINDING and BUYING a bearing for my cr250r, the size is 20X33X15, it seems to have a type of sleeve around it, but the guys at the bearing place said it was part of the bearing... This bearing is located right below the bearing for the clutch (swinging) arm.(its some type of special needle bearing) I don't know too much about it, but i heard that this bearing was discontinued? You have the bearing size so you are way ahead of the game. A professional bearning shop will know what you need. The bearing, or bearing assembly, includes the bunch of needle bearnings and that outer race that you mention. The new one will look like a short beer can without a top or bottom, and with a bunch of pretzel sticks standing up around the inside. Heat up the case with a blow dryer and that bearing ought to come out easily. Heat gun if needed, but don't go all crazy with a torch unless you are really brave. Enjoy, Jon |

....go to the CR reference section and download the parts catalog. It would easier to help if we knew which part you were looking for. |

Wrench, You're in luck. I went through this same mess with my '79 crankcase a while back. Every bearing except one is readily available from Honda - the 20X33X15 caged needle. The folks from Red Devil Racing in OZ hooked me up with a Yamaha part number for the same bearing: 93311-42045. The bearing is still used on the R-6 so is still available from your freindly Yamaha dealer. I bought several. I found out the reason this bearing is not available from ANY other source including the companies that manufactured it to begin with, is because it was a "boutique" bearing commisioned by Honda and Yamaha who then took delivery of the entire production run. Yup, Yamaha uses the dimension trans bearing in the Banshee 350 twin engine. They are readily available from your Yamaha dealer. |

 Hey thanks alot, didn't know this would be so helpful!  Another quick question, How would i get ahold of factory original paint??? Can i get this in a spay can or a bucket for a spayer??? Or do i have to send the parts in to be painted for me? Thanks again, Wrench |

Your CR is painted Tahitian Red. This color is available from a couple of sources in a rattle can. Check out the resources icon and click on VMX Racing for the gloss version (frame, etc.) and Red Rocket VMX (Holland) for the satin hi-temp paint for the engine. If you want a more durable finish, you can use powder coating. RAL 3020 is a very close match to Tahitian Red and is readily available as a paint and powder. I'm including before and after pictures of the front number plate from my '79 resto so you can see what RAL 3020 looks like compared to the original color. dogger [img]  [/img][img  ][/img]

Thanks alot! This was very helpful, i think i will repaint the engine and frame when i am ready to sell it (in about 2 years) What do you think would be a reasonable price for a 1980 cr250r elsinore? (i rebuilt the engine, replaced all cables, will be newly painted, new seat cover+foam, with painted seat pan, New engine bolt set, new clutch discs + springs, Uni - Airfilter, New tires, ect...) I was thinking of a price range between 3,000 and 4,800 dollars? I saw one go for five grand! What is your insight? |

It is very difficult to put a price on an item in the future. You have a couple of options. You can freshen up the bike and enjoy it as a rider/racer then sell it in a couple of years which sounds like your current gameplan. If the bike is well maintained and cared for, you shouldn't take a hit financially (break even). In order to get the money you saw for that other bike, you will either have to "trick it out" with AHRMA legal mods and parts and sell it to a vintage racer or restore it back to original condition and sell it to a collector or similar enthusiast. I could be wrong, but I dont think 80's Hondas are bringing big bucks yet. If you are looking to make money, you might want to locate and restore a "green stripe" Elsinore. Just be aware, it's easier siad than done. dogger |
