I've been working the performance issues out with my recently restored bike and I have a couple of questions. First I know the intake carb boot is'nt the correct one it came with the "box of bike" .It's about 10mm longer because it pushes the carb way back into the air box (I've ordered the right one from honda). Secondly I installed a Pro form pipe on the bike. This bike has no bottom end or much midrange either. Its all top end and I gotta ride it like a 125. I had one of these new in 1980 so I do remember they did have low end torque. I've pressure tested the cyl to check for seal leaks, intake leaks etc,, the jetting is stock,it has new Boynsen reeds,I've checked timing-its correct, made sure the ignition was grounded. I've run the gammit of possible causes. Could the combo of a longer intake and this pipe cause it to lose the bottom end of the power band? Has anyone else ended up putting the stock pipe back on? |

Sounds like you may need a new piston and rings, if it has no low end power. The pipe can affect the low end torque, but not by much. Also, the longer intake should inprove the low end torque |
